I have to admit as a child I think I was quite a fussy eater. My mum said she thinks I lived a whole year off potatoes pancakes and spaghetti. I’m not sure why my mum let me do that but she did and there is nothing is wrong with me, I’m fairly healthy and love all sorts of food now (still fussy with somethings.)
My kids on the other hand drive me made. Joshua who is 15 does not like bits in his food. I can make Spaghetti Bolognese or chilli from scratch and he will pick out the onions, the tomatoes anything. I make it from a jar and he is not that bad. I obviously don’t make it good enough although I think it’s delicious. He doesn’t like anything creamy, or mashed potatoes. When I make cottage pie I have to make his separate with sliced potatoes. It drives me mad. School dinners well, he has school dinners twice a week which is fine but when he has a packed lunch he doesn’t even like sandwiches like who doesn’t? It is bloody hard work. Also he is 15 so he eats a lot of rubbish and drinks a lot of rubbish when he is out with friends. Doesn’t matter how hard I try to stop it. It’s normal for teenagers I get it. He is in good health drinks loads of water, plays rugby so nothing to really worry about it is just a pain for me.
Lily used to eat everything and I mean everything. She used to be slightly overweight (according to the school nurse) But she grew out of that and now she eats next to nothing. She is starting to not eat meat which you would think what’s the big deal right? It wouldn’t be a big deal however, she eats no vegetables. She used to eat it all and now nothing. She doesn’t like cheese, sandwiches, sausage rolls, mini sausages, eggs (that’s both of them). She hates any sort of pasta sauce, she has plain rice and plain pasta. She is becoming so bad. The only good thing is that she likes her fruit, both my kids do there. Lily has even come to the point now she doesn’t like squash just fizzy water. That is all.
They are both horrendous, especially Lily at the moment. I don’t know what to do? I have tried to hide it in food, blend things in but they won’t eat it then. It is driving me crazy. We have even gone through the charts if you eat that then you will get a treat’ etc. But that didn’t last long as she just gave up. I can’t make her as she starts to gag. It got to the point one night that she had a plate of roast potatoes because that is all she would eat. It wasn’t worth an argument.
It’s so hard as a parent to work out what is best and how to deal with it. The amount of food I waste because they don’t eat it, knowing what meals to make for all of us is so hard on a budget.
The only thing that is keeping me going at the moment is knowing the are both healthy for now.
